We love Kenzie’s pump however there are days when it is frustrating. Yesterday she came home from school, her sugar was high and I could not get it down. We drank lots of water and did a correction bolus. We finally got everything under control. She went to get into the shower so I snagged her pump and had Kevin figure out what the deal was. Basically there was no insulin given for lunch. She checked her finger but somehow the school nurse and McKenzie did not actually do the lunch time bolus. Kevin made the call to Nurse Christy this morning and brought it to her attention. Kenzie is so independent but she is still only 10 years old so stuff happens.
Today McKenzie had her very first “track meet” if you want to call it that. It was wild and extremely chaotic. They lined 200 kids up and sent them on their way with the shot of a gun. They all took off I lost McKenzie in the mob. CC took off after her and Kevin ran and found her as she headed to the finish line. The kids all had fun and that is what matters. I was excited thinking it was going to be a little more organized though. Kenzie is not happy with the number she finished as but I am super proud of her because when a little bitty girl fell while running, McKenzie helped her up.
We went to Buns over Texas to treat McKenzie and CC for such a good job. I pulled Kenzie’s pump out of my purse where I had stuck it when a stranger brought it to me after the race started. I think she might have been a PE coach but not the one I am use to working with. Went ahead and checked the tubing and everything to make sure the settings had not been messed with and there were lots and lots of bubbles in the line and in the reservoir. Dang bubbles. Spent 15 or 20 minutes getting all the bubbles out that would keep McKenzie from receiving the correct amount of insulin.
We had a nice dinner and a good giggle at McKenzie she had been pretty low after running so I gave her some cookies to bring her up pretty quick. That sent her into a bit of blondness. She was sitting there with her hamburger and got frustrated because she forgot to add a little ketchup to it at the self serve bar area. I said “well take a tator tot and use it to add a little of your ketchup.” Next thing I know she has her ketchup all over the top of her bun. C.C. was laughing so hard I said “sweetie I meant inside the burger”. Kenzie smiled real big and said “OH.” CC still laughing so hard she could barely talk finally gets out “how are you going to hold it?” Funny Girls. Love them both SOOOOO MUCH! I love dinner time with Kevin and the two of them both our Thing 1 and Thing 2.
